Vertebrate Inventory for DeSoto National Memorial

Abstract

This project fulfills a need to assess vertebrate communities identified within the "Study Plan to the Inventory of Vascular Plants and Vertebrates in the South Florida/Caribbean Network of the National Park Service" conducted in 2000 by Dr. Chris Sasso (University of Miami) and Matt Patterson (Biscayne National Park). This project contributes to the objectives of the Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit (CESU) by providing research and technical assistance to the National Park Service. It addresses a need to assess the distribution of extant vertebrates within the region and better understand the biogeography of vertebrates in South Florida. Live trapping, spot censuses, and time-constrained searches were the methodologies used in this project to assess vertebrate populations within DeSoto National Memorial boundaries.
