Linking the South Florida Multi-Species Recovery Plan to Local Government Planning and Regulation through Environmental Education
Abstract
The goal of this project is to provide information to local governments (counties and municipalities) and Regional Planning Councils so they can pro-actively incorporate the South Florida Multi-Species Recovery Plan into planning
and regulatory decisions. Objectives of this project include: 1) Identify critical resources (listed species, their habitats, and supporting ecosystems) within the boundaries of local governments and Regional Planning Councils;
2) Describe alternative (mechanisms including incentives, partnerships, acquisition, and regulation) for protecting, maintaining and/or enhancing the value of those resources for the recovery of listed species and the restoration
of the South Florida ecosystem; and 3) Deliver the relevant information to the appropriate agency in an easily understood and useful manner.
