The main objective of this project is to create an integrated hydrological/ecological monitoring program for the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve in Mexico through the training of Mexican resource managers and scientists in geographic information and global positioning systems. The scope of work for this project includes: 1) Conduct two training workshops to be held at the reserve's field station for a minimum of 15 Mexican managers and ecosystem monitoring for GIS/GPS skills for natural areas managers and ecosystem monitoring for wetlands resources. Instructors include personnel from the University of Florida, USGS, NPS, USFWS, and the Mexican Council for Protected Areas (CONANP). An evaluation of the training workshops will be produced and submitted at the end of the project; 2) establish an integrated hydrological/ ecological monitoring program in the reserve, 3) produce a training manual on the use of GIS and GPS and on ecosystem monitoring for wetland resources and distribute to workshop participants.
