Personal Statement

I am an Ecologist with the US Geological Survey, working with the University of Florida’s collaborative Joint Ecosystem Modeling (JEM) team. Our projects are focused on ecological modeling to help with restoration planning for the Florida Everglades. We also work on coastal and inland models for the Southwest Florida Feasibility Study. Before joining the JEM team, I ran a number of research programs including herbivore ecology in Florida, California, and South Africa, and carnivore conservation in Kenya and Zimbabwe. Some of the projects I worked on included developing means to protect wildlife while improving livelihoods of local citizens, understanding the dynamics bush-meat trade and finding alternatives to poaching, and conservation projects for endangered African wild dogs and also for lions.

Education

I earned my PhD in Ecology at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2003. I received my Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida in 1998.
